Marble Challenge

In Te Ngahere last term, we did the marble challenge. We are doing to this to help us to prepare for the science fair this term. My group decided not to build a new ramp but instead we modified our old ramp to give it another chance. What my group change is how steep our ramp is so the marble doesn't go as fast as last time. The reason why we changed how steep the ramp was is because the marble went to fast. I think improved on my ramp because my ramp got more points than the first time Te Ngahere did the marble challenge. What I enjoy the most is making the ramp because I like to build and make stuff.

Have you ever made a marble ramp?

Dot Plot Graph

Latey in Te Ngahere my class has been learning about “dot plots”. What I learnt is how to make a dot plot graph. I also learnt how to do was analyze and also create a dot plot. Something that was tricky for me to do in this activity was explain what I saw or found in the two classes. The thing that what I got stuck was when Room 1 throwed between 14 and 19 but the thing that I got stuck on was I thought that all the balls were landing between 10 and 20. We had to describe how the data from room 1’s dot plot was gathered.

Have you ever done a dot plot graph before?

Science Fair

Latey in Te Ngahere our class has been doing science experiments. My groups topic is “Can you keep a flower alive longer by putting different liquid to feed the flower. I learned what a conclusion and a discussion means I also learned what controlled variables, independent variable means. What I found difficult is writing out the method and writing out the evaluation. What I would do different is picking an easy topic because the first time my group did the experiment we had to restart because the flowers stem was to long so we had to get new flowers and get more liquids. Which hoe I was using is Manaakitanga because I needed to help me and my group.

Have you ever made a science experiment?

Science Roadshow

Te Ngahere  went on this amazing trip to the Bay of Islands College for a Science Roadshow. I learnt that in science it’s not just about experimenting it’s about having a hypothesis and what  hypothesis mean is  to guess something. My most favourite exhibit at the Science Roadshow was the different types of honey tasting because one it was delicious and the learning part was figuring out what makes some of the honeys taste different. When I went to the Science Roadshow it gave me some ideas for what I should do with my project, the ideas it gave me was that I should maybe have something like the honey tasting but instead of honey maybe I could do something else. I think the reason why we went to the Science Roadshow was to learn more about science, and obviously to give us some ideas for what to do with our project. Have you been to a Science Roadshow before?

Great Marble Challenge

Last week in Te Ngahere we did the marble challenge. We had to create a marble ramp using whatever materials we could find in the classroom or from home. We got to choose groups of 2 or 3. The objective was for the marble to stop exactly 110cm and it starts  from the end of your ramp. The main reason we are doing this is because we have a Science fair  coming up soon so we are using this challenge to prepare for that. On the last day we are not allowed to touch our ramps and someone else will. We also had to create specific instructions on how to operate our ramp. Have you done the marble challenge before?

Learning About The Scientific Method:

Latey in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the Scientific Method. The reason why we have been learning about the Scientific Method was because we were going to make a infographic about the Scientific Method. I really enjoyed this because I might use the Scientific Method in the future because I might want to do science in high school. What I think I did well was getting pictures that matched the steps in the Scientific Method. What I could do better is write more to add more detail about the pictures. Do you know what the the Scientific Method is?

Mosaic art

Kia ora in Te Ngahere we have been doing art. The class has been doing mosaic art, we had to get a Google drawing or Google slides and put any picture of anything on it. Then we used the polyline tool on the toolbar at the top to make shapes between each gaps and try create your own picture. We were learning this because we have made videos to put around the school explaining what animals and trees and plants and insects are good in our Ngahere. We made these for qr codes, so then we can just put the video on the picture. What I did was a Nissan skyline gtr r34. What I think that I did well was making the brake lights. What I could do better is making the wheels look better.

Have you made Mosaic art before?

Language Features

Latey in Te Ngahere we have been learning about language features for T Shaped. We have been reading a text and harvesting verbs, concrete nouns and many more. What I know is verbs, concrete nouns and abstract nouns. A verb is a action word such as walking and running anything to do with moving is a verb. A concrete noun has five senses and your five senses are taste, see, hear, feel and smell. A abstract nouns is a noun that can’t be identified by your five senses. I hope you have learnt something new and enjoyed reading this post, blog you later.

Did you know any of these before?

Touch

Kia Ora my name is Jayden and I go to Paihia School and I’m a year 8 in Te Ngahere, we have been doing P.E. rotations with Te Maunga. For P.E rotations we have been doing touch with Mr Ngata, soccer with Whaea Penny and Gina, netball with Whaea Chrissy and Whaea Ronnie, and skill with Whaea Becks. For the rotation, I did touch. Mr Ngata was teaching us how to pass the ball properly, he also taught us a couple of the rules in the end we had a quick game of touch. The fields were pretty small but that was ok.  What I think that I did well was passing the ball to my teammates and following the directions. What I could have done better is talking with my teammates when we played the game.

Have you ever played touch before?

Wing

Lately in Te Ngahere we have being learning about this animation called Wing. What the class were learning about wing was to use words and phrases to create powerful images and emotional responses for our audience. Frist what the class did was write the plan and what I had to do for the plan was to write out little part of the the story then we write what happen in the animation and add interesting detail about the story. What I found hard was adding detail because I didn’t know how to use the thesaurus then I asked my learning buddie how to use it. The easiest part was to write the plan because the class only had to write what happened in the story.

Have you seen the animation about Wing?

Technology Part 2

Lately in Te Ngahere this term the year 7 & 8s have been going to technology at Moerewa School the year 8’s are doing woodwork or metalwork and the year 7’s are doing cooking. The year 8’s are making waka with Mr E I was with Mr E making waka. What I found challenging was cleaning up the sides with the file and making the sides smooth and to make sure the side are straight and smooth. The easy part is waiting because I need to put one side of the waka and another piece of wood.  What I need to work on is making the sides on the waka straight.

Have you made a waka before?

Mothers Days

On Sunday, 9 may it was Mother’s Day. On Mother’s Day me and my sister did a surprise. Me and my sister made pancakes and golden syrup for breakfast. Then me and my sister made some cards and it said  (Happy Mother's Day we hope you had a good Mother‘s Day). For lunch me and my sister made burgers It was hard because me and my sister don’t really know how to make burgers so we had  some help from my step dad. For dinner I made toasties for Mother’s Day.

What did you do for Mother’s Day?

Fish drawing

Latey in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to use the tools on google drawing. We had to make stuff in the ocean like fish shark and a lot more. I was drawing a fish and I’m going to make the reef and some more sea life what I think that I did well was drawing Sponge Bob because Sponge Bob is easy to draw on google drawing. What I think was hard was drawing the fish because I had to keep restarting.

Have you tried drawing marine life or anything else on Google drawings?

Technology

Latey in Te Ngahere this term the year 7 & 8s have been going to technology at Moerewa School the year 8’s are doing woodwork or metalwork and the year 7’s are doing cooking. The year 8’s are making wakas with Mr E. What I found challenging is cutting the waka to make the shape because we had to use a power tool and the power tools are hard to use. We had  to cut out the shape of the waka. What I think that I did well was measuring and making the shape of the waka but it took me two tries to get it right. What I need to work on is to get better at using the power tool to make my cutting straight.

Have you ever done technology at school?

Trying to Follow The Directions

Lately in Te Ngahere Whaea Becks gave the class a sheet of paper with 23 directions. The reason why the class did this activity to see how well we follow the directions and see if the class actually reads the success criteria. The first instructions was read everything carefully before doing anything and and I thought we have to read the directions then start writing but what I had to do is to read all the instructions then start writing I got up to 20 then. When I realise I had not followed the instructions I feel like a failure but I thought easy. What I going to make sure I would do in the future is to read the directions carefully.

Have you tried something like this?

Surfing the Web

Kia Ora, lately in Te Ngahere our class has been learning about something called Smart Surfing. Smart Surfing is about how to use keywords when your trying to search something Surfing . Smart surfing will help you because keywords are the important words. For example, if you want to ask google “what do spiders eat“ . The keywords are “spiders eat” because that is the most important words and google will give you closest answer to what you are looking for. There is a thing called digital spiders and they go through the web and go through the words that you searched up on google. If you write in a normal question you will get the wrong answer you're looking for. If you search up the keywords will get the the right answer that you're looking for.

Have you ever heard about Smart Surfing?

Sketchy Skateboarding

 Sketchy Skateboarding

Last weekend me and my family went to the skate park in Kerikeri. When we got to the skate park I was nervous because the ramps was really high and I never been down a ramp before. I had a little ride around the skate park and I asked this man how do you go down a ramp and he said you just lean forward but not to much because you will face plant into the concrete when you lean ford than lean back a little bit and just like. Then I went to the edge and put the skateboard down and went down just like the guy said, and I made it down then I fell over on the skateboard of excitement.

The Difference Between The two.

Lately in Te Ngahere the class has been learning about the food web. The food web is about birds, tree’s and consumers. The birds eat the fruit from the trees and the energy from the tree transfer to the consumers .Here are two food webs one is mine and the other is Whaea Beck’s. My food web is different because Whaea Beck’s has coloured her arrows to represent what type of consumers. Whaea Beck’s food web is different because her arrows are all over the place and I tried making my look tide.

Have you learned about the food web?

TaskMaster’s

1st attempt:

Lately in Te Ngahere the class has been play this game called taskMaster for taskMaster we have to discuss who is going to be the drawer and the runners have to run to the original paper that Whaea Becks made and you need to memorise the drawing and run back to the drawer and tell them what to draw without touching the paper and ponting and the paper.

What worked well: That we got some down than we thought and I was surprise how much we got done. What didn’t work well: The team didn’t really worked well because we didn’t trust each other because we didn't really know each other. What was challenging: was the group was stressing out because we wanted is done but we only got a few down because the timer.

2nd attempt:

What did you change: The runners change how they explain what to write.

What worked well: Is the team got more drawings down and the runners run faster. What didn’t work well: It was hard being the runner because it is hard to explain to say to the writer and to memorise. what to say.

The Tsunami

Last friday there was a tsunami evacuation when I got to school. I was wondering why no one was at school then  Whaeae Ronnie and Mrs lindsay told me and my little sister and Ruby to run up the hill really quickly. As I was running I was wondering where the school was, then I  realised everyone was  up on the hill then I ran to my friend’s. After a while I asked Whaea Becks if I could call my mum.

We were all really nervous because we didn't know what was going on in till Whaea Ronnie told us what was going on than I got more nervous because I had never  been in a tsunami before.

Have you encountered a tsunami before?

What is the Kawa of Care?

Lately in Te Ngahere we have being learning about the Kawa of Care. The Kawa of care explains how to take care of your chromebook. The Kawa of care is a document that you have to agree to follow when you buy a chromebook. What I have done well is carrying my chromebook with two hands.

Is the Kawa of Care new to you?

Here is a DLO that I made
